The Silver Mountains

This was the name given to the Peisey Nancroix community during the French Revolution. It arose from the lead and silver mines which were first created during the reign of Louis XIV. Discover the remains of the industry and learn about the mineral extraction and treatment techniques.

Farming

The Ponthurin Valley maintains its agricultural and pastoral traditions with more than 800 Tarines and Abondances milking cows. Alpine mountain pastures respond to seasonal changes and are home to the herds during the summer months. ?High quality Beaufort cheese is produced from the milk using ancestral methods. ?Dairy products can be bought directly from Peisey's farmers.

Our locally produced Beaufort cheese brings people together for tasting sessions, guided visits and much more. We are proud to recommend "Voyage autour du Beaufort", a week of discovery about Beaufort, local heritage, our environment and natural surroundings.

Baroque trail

Every week, a lecturer guide organises guided visits to Peisey's churches and Notre Dame des Vernettes chapel. Totaling nine baroque chapels and churches, within the Ponthurin valley has a rich and important art heritage.

Jazz N'Bouf Festival

Open air dinner and jazz concerts. Experience the "Boogie Woogie" tribute to Louis Armstrong and Sidney Bechet.

Mountain Heritage Week

Introduction to the mountain heritage with visits to the mines, the baroque Vernettes's chapel and examples of local crafts.

Mountain and Costume Festival

Traditional festival with costume parade, folk dances with the folk group "Les Cordettes", a craft market and the selection of the "Queen of Peisey", the lady whose traditional costume suits the best.
